ee0u30eb Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Hi all, been a while! I have recently had an accident in my Focus and so am currently driving the wifes Galaxy. Its in need of some TLC and I can't stand driving around in a car thats a bit tatty! So far I have fixed: Rear parking sensorsClicking door whilst openingSlow retracting seatbeltsCoolant leakBlocked rear windscreen nozzle I now want to make some of the interior look a bit nicer. In particular the steering wheel is looking a bit tired as well as the part where the windows switches are housed. http://www.freeiphone3gsgiveaway.co.uk/images/p1000784.jpghttp://www.freeiphone3gsgiveaway.co.uk/images/p1000785.jpg The part with the switched seems rubberised and so the only thing I can think of is to respray it with something else and forget about the rubbery finish. How can I remove this part for a respray? Is it easy? The steering wheel shows wear where the silver has rubbed off, any suggestion for improving this? Also whilst on the topic of the steering wheel, I recently had a new drive shaft fitted, and since then the neutral position of the steering wheel isn't straight. Is this something I can fix (I am no mechanic, but good at fixing things within my power). If thats not easy to fix I'll get it back the garage that put the drive shaft in. Many thanks guys Quote
mikej Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 If it's any help, in your first pic the interior door handles that hold your window switches can be bought for peanuts from the main dealer, i am sure i changed both driver and passenger sides for less than Quote

ee0u30eb Posted April 27, 2010 Author Report Posted April 27, 2010 The actual switches if i remember just screw on the back ;) When you say screw on the back... do I have to remove the door card first and then there will be a screw in there? Just been out to look at it and there is nothing obvious without removing the door card. Quote
mikej Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 No, no need to remove the door card at all they will simply pull off, there is an insert fitted exactly were you hand grips the handle, pop that out first and then just pull up the whole lot, swap switches over and job done. Less than a minute if you have done it before. From looking at your first photo it's the long rubber strip inside the handle cup to the right of the switches. Quote
ee0u30eb Posted April 27, 2010 Author Report Posted April 27, 2010 Its ok.... I got the door handle covers off after reading another post on this forum. I've found a great looking plasti-kote super satin spray which I'm going to try out. If that works I just need to sort out the silver on the steering wheel. Any ideas? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Hi thereThis link will show you what you need, you dont need to remove door card.Curious as to why steering wheel in now out, changing shaft would not affect that. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ost&p=35344 Quote

Did you get a result with the plastikote as mine are looking scruffy and I want to refresh or replace. Many thanks Quote
